Dr. Genieve Burley
In this feature of DRVN Stories, we spotlight Dr. Genieve Burley, a chiropractor, movement expert, and advocate for mental health and philanthropy. With a deep commitment to helping individuals find sovereignty in their bodies and lives, Genieve’s journey is one of resilience, authenticity, and a relentless pursuit of personal and collective well-being.
Finding Purpose Through Movement and Service
Genieve’s story is rooted in a passion for helping others. “I very much feel that my role and my purpose is to help people find who they are and to have sovereignty in their bodies and lives.” As a chiropractor for nearly two decades, she has witnessed firsthand the intersection of physical and mental well-being and how it shapes the way we move, feel, and engage with the world.
Her academic path reflects her hunger for knowledge. After graduating from Queen’s University, she pursued chiropractic medicine at CMCC and later began a Master’s program at UBC, only to recognize that true expertise isn’t always measured in degrees. “I had to ask myself: am I doing this because I need validation, or because I truly want it?” That moment of clarity pushed her toward embracing real-world experience over external recognition.
The Power of Manifestation and Mindset
Genieve believes that movement is more than just physical—it is deeply connected to the mind. “The only limitation I have in life is my mind,” she says. This belief has propelled her to challenge herself in ways she never imagined, whether swimming long distances in open water, taking up tennis in her 40s, or stepping into new professional ventures.
To maintain focus and clarity, Genieve dedicates time each day to self-reflection and visualization. Whether it’s through mindful movement, meditation, or simply taking time to set clear intentions, she prioritizes mental alignment as a key driver of success. “When you take time to visualize where you’re going and believe in your own potential, you start making unconscious decisions that move you toward that goal.”
Creating Balance in a Multifaceted Life
As a mother, doctor, wellness leader, and entrepreneur, Genieve juggles many roles. “It’s a dance,” she explains. Her approach to balance is rooted in intentionality—waking up early to prioritize movement, setting firm boundaries around her energy, and saying no to commitments that don’t serve her higher purpose. “Time is our greatest asset,” she emphasizes.
Her commitment to intentionality also guides her work in philanthropy. After initially engaging in various fundraising efforts, she refined her focus to causes that deeply resonate with her—mental health and wellness. “It’s the foundation of all health,” she says. This clarity has allowed her to maximize her impact while ensuring her contributions remain meaningful and sustainable.
Building Resilience Through Adversity
Genieve’s openness about her mental health journey is one of the most compelling aspects of her story. Having grown up in a home affected by loss and addiction, she developed anxiety early on but lacked the language to understand it. It wasn’t until she became a mother that she truly recognized the depth of her struggles. “It was paralyzing,” she recalls, describing the postpartum anxiety that led her to seek professional help. “That was the beginning of my journey—realizing that mental health care is essential, not optional.”
Through therapy, movement, and self-inquiry, she has built resilience, but she acknowledges that healing is an ongoing process. “It’s a journey. I’m still in it.”
What’s Next: A New Wellness Venture
With a new wellness-focused business on the horizon, Genieve is once again stepping into the unknown with purpose and courage. “I want to create a space where people feel empowered in their health journey,” she shares. The venture will integrate movement, recovery, and science-backed health strategies to help individuals optimize their well-being at every stage of life.
When asked what advice she would give to young women navigating their own journeys, her response is powerful and affirming: “You are her. You were born to be her. Keep following what lights you up.”
Dr. Genieve Burley’s story is a reminder that true success isn’t just about external accolades—it’s about living in alignment with who you are, taking up space, and embracing the journey with courage and authenticity.
